The Pier Realty Story

Originally established in 1982, Pier Realty was founded by Tom Van Tuyl and Natalie Kotsch. After 20+ years in business, they had perfected servicing the Huntington Beach communities not only with their real estate needs, but also by being an integral part of the community by participating in City Council, Planning Commission, the founding of the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum, the Pier Group and many other civic groups. The original Pier Realty was dissolved in 2005 after selling the business location to a large franchise.

The new Pier Realty opened for business January 6, 2011. Owned and managed by Joe Anello who was consistently among the top agents at the original Pier Realty over his 15 years at the firm. When the 2005 buyout occurred, Joe went to one of the area's larger firms along with his long time partner Walli Mattern. The duo quickly achieved Presidents Club status in a company of over 300 local agents.  Joe was asked by his Broker to help find a great location in Downtown Huntington Beach to expand the franchise. He found a diamond in the rough at the corner of 11th and Orange. An old video rental store was shutting down. The franchise that Joe worked for turned down the location, saying that they had hoped to be on Main Street in the first 3 blocks. "This location makes perfect sense" said Joe, "I saw the perfect foundation to put together an office that serves the local downtown residents and it is convenient, easy to find and fun to visit".

Naming the new office Pier Realty was a simple choice for Joe. He built, owned and ran the PierRealty.com website and has kept control of the site even in the absence of the company for which it was named. " I knew that at some point in my career I would want to open my own office and I hoped that the name would still be available. When this opportunity presented itself and due to the short amount of time I had to decide to move forward with it, it was a big help not having to worry about what I would name my new office". It took 60 days to convert the dilapidated video store into a quaint boutique real estate office and over that 2 month period many of the past customers that had done business with the original Pier Realty stopped in to say how glad they were to see the name back in town.
